To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Chris and I am an incoming senior at Bentley who plays football. I have been a part of athletes in action since I was a freshman but the experience in the past year since Andrew became the coordinator of A.I.A. has been by far the best one yet. As a long term member of the AIA team, Andrew, a few other long-time members and I grew very close throughout the fall and spring semester and made it our mission to team up and reach out to the athletic student body to add members to our team and most importantly share the word of the lord with them. At the very beginning of our meetings during the first few weeks of the fall semester we would have about 5 kids show up to go over a different passage of the bible each week. Through the persistence of our core group of guys and through the guidance of Andrew, we worked at recruiting kids and soon we would see our numbers noticeably increase. More and more of our teammates would show up every week and this translated directly onto the field. Before each game this group of now 10 plus guys would go to the end zone, pray and play the game through the lord who we were learning more about.
Later on in the year we started having pasta dinners on Sunday nights where we would incorporate bible study into our meal. By this time in the year we would experience 20 plus person show outs. It was an amazing thing to see how far the Lord’s word had spread in such a short amount of time and I truly believe that without the guidance and leadership of Andrew, it would not have been possible. He has brought so much good to the guys on our team and the entire athletic program here at Bentley. His mission was to spread the word and grow/tie together the Christian community of Bentley and the momentum that this year has created has proven that success.
Personally, I have become much more involved in my faith through meetings that I had with Andrew separately. In times of the year where I was going through troubles, having questions or just needing someone to talk to, Andrew never failed to answer my call and find time to come, discuss and say a prayer for me. For all of this I am forever grateful. My hopes are that through this letter you see just how much of an impact this one person has had on so many of us and that this first year of action will only lead to greater thing s in years to come. I know I speak for the rest of the AIA community when I say that we encourage Andrew to come back as our friend and brother in Christ. It is with the utmost gratitude that we ask you to consider allowing this to happen by bringing him back to Bentley to lead our group again next year and further enhance our Christian community. Thank you for your time and consideration.
My name is Keith and I am a rising junior in school who plays Football. I joined AIA this year almost by accident. I saw a few friends sitting down and so I joined them. After a few minutes of talking I found out it was a bible study, and was invited to stay. Coming from a family that is one side mostly Jehovah witnesses and the other being mostly Catholics, I ended up trying to just do my own thing which was hard. So after experiencing my first meeting of AIA I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to come back but being new I was quiet in the group. Eventually down the road I was informed of the AIA winter retreat and thought of coming but had plans. By a blessing those plans were cancelled and I was able to go on the retreat which really brought me to terms with my faith. My urge to learn and get closer to God was stronger than ever and all I wanted to do when we got back to campus was to teach my friends and fellow AIA members what I learned and strongly encourage them to come next year. Every chance I get I remind them to plan for it. The things I learned, the friends I made, and the closer to God I got from that one retreat was astounding. This program has done wonders for me not just spiritually but also in the fact that I am actively seeking to get closer to God, leads me to feel fulfilled every day and the more at peace I am. I am extremely thankful for this program, and I plan on making a positive impact on it and my community for time to come!
Hi, my name is Martin, sophomore football player here at Bentley University. I would like to inform you of how much of an influence Andrew Nilson has been for me for the past year and a half. I first came in as a freshman looking for a place to meet and study the word of God. Andrew welcomed me into Athletes in Action with open arms. When I came in, there were only about 4 or 5 people that I knew of to be in the group. Now, as of today, there are 15-20 members in the group and we are still expanding. Andrew has done an awesome job of keeping us together an active within the group and it has taught me so much about life. You can speak to him about anything and everything you can imagine and he will go above and beyond to help you with whatever you are dealing with. In the next year or so, I see this group expanding even more to where our numbers may double again!
Hi, my name is Sean and I am a junior in school who plays football. I wanted to share a story about our group that is very encouraging. Early on in the semester we had a meeting after practice and were finishing our meals and were just about to begin. One of our teammates sat down, not knowing we were having bible study. We began and he began to realize and began to reevaluate his decision to sit with us. However, after a minute of debating he decided to stay for the entire meeting. He soon became a regular attendee and one of the leaders. We have all been highly encouraged by this.
